Colleges & Universities

More and more colleges and universities are realizing the value of pet therapy to assist students with relieving the intense stresses and pressures of college life.  Local community colleges and universities such as Pima Community College and University of Arizona now request pet therapy visits from PPSAZ throughout the year.

Finals week is one of the largest events PPSAZ provides pet therapy to students. A simple loving  touch, shake, or trick from a therapy dog goes a long way with a student who is stress and studying for finals.  In December 2017, pet therapy teams from PPSAZ interacted with approximately 7,000 separate students during finals week at local community colleges and universities.

The health benefits of therapy pets are well-documented.  Researvh has shown petting a canine companion or other therapy animal can help lower blood pressure, reduce anxiety, and alleviate depression, while decreasing levels of the stress hormone, cortisol, and provide some real benefits for university students.

If you are interested in participating in the events hosted by local colleges and universities, please look for notices posted on the PPSAZ Facebook page and emails sent out throughout the year to sign up.
